The new upper offers a combination of synthetic leather and air mesh for improved performance and breathability. The addition of the toe guard improves durability of the shoe. In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan.
